You are well within specs:
http://www.cpu-world.com...0-%20AXDA2100DUT3C.html

But that doesn't mean it didn't overheat in the past causing intermittent
problems. That CPU is pretty cheap now - it may be time to go shopping. And
you might even get away with a faster processor, depending on the
motherboard.

On the other hand, you could have a bad motherboard. That era of machine was
on the tail end of a series of boards with bad capacitors - I had 5 out of 6
at work fail because of bad caps. So look at the caps for bulging/leaking.

And it could be drivers - have you looked at the event logs to see what (if
any) messages are there? What exactly does it do when it "shuts down" -
lockup? reboot? power off? blue screen?

Any help here?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811270

Something about the "DelFin Media Viewer" generating an unhandled error
message with a reference to C000005?

I'm trying to find out why my daughter's computer keeps shutting down.... it
is now practically rebuilt!! I've swapped

Memory
Power supply
Renstalled XP on a different hard drive
The mainboard is recent ... but has been working fine.

But I've noticed my computer CPU runs at 41C this is running at 50C ....
could it be overheating at this?? Fan seems fine. (AMD XP 2100)

I take your point about the time!!

Flushed the CMOS (if that's the right word) Updated the bios ... and still
the problem!

However, followed your comment about error log ... the results mean nothing
to me!!

The COM+ Event sytem detected a bad return code during its internal
processing HRESULT was C000005 from line 44 of
d:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\events\tier\eventsystemobj.cpp. then goes on about
contacting microsoft, but they don't say anything!!!

Hey ... there is no d drive!!! but there was when we installed XP!! (But it
was crashing before the d drive was taken out ......

Having reset CMOS .. Updated bios ... I am probably stupidly taking a
different hard drive and reinstalling XP!! (The mainboard is relatively new
so i can't imagine that being a problem???)
